Frequently asked questions
Corflute signage refers to signs printed on corrugated plastic sheeting - a lightweight, twin-wall polypropylene material with internal fluted channels running between two flat outer faces. The name "Corflute" is a registered trademark of Australian manufacturer Corex, though it's widely used as a general term for all corrugated plastic signs in Australia. It's the go-to material for temporary and semi-permanent signage including real estate signs, event banners, construction site notices, and election placards.
Yes. Corflute is 100% waterproof and weather-resistant, making it well suited for outdoor use across Australia's varied climates. At SS Signs we print using a DigiTech TruFire LT/X UV flatbed printer with UV-curable inks, which bond directly to the surface and resist fading, peeling, and moisture. For outdoor applications we always recommend specifying UV-stabilised material, which is standard across our corflute range.
Outdoor lifespan depends on UV exposure and environment. Under full Australian sun, a standard corflute sign typically lasts 12 to 18 months before the material or print shows visible degradation. In shaded or sheltered locations signs can last considerably longer. If you need extended outdoor lifespan, ask us about about options.
For most outdoor applications : real estate signs, event signage, site notices, 5mm corflute is the standard and recommended choice. It provides a solid, rigid sign that holds its shape in wind and handles ground spike installation well. 3mm is lighter and lower cost, better suited to indoor or short-term use. For large-format signs in exposed locations, 5mm is always the right call.
We can produce corflute signs in any custom size from 150mm × 150mm up to 2400mm × 1200mm as a single sheet. Larger signs can be produced as multi-panel sets. Common sizes include 600mm × 450mm, 600mm × 900mm, 900mm × 600mm, and 1200mm × 900mm. Our instant online support team can handle any custom dimension you need big or small.
Your artwork is printed directly onto the corflute sheet using our DigiTech TruFire LT/X UV2 flatbed printer. UV-curable inks are applied and cured instantly under LED lamps in a single pass, no drying time, no solvent emissions, and exceptional colour accuracy. The result is a vibrant, durable print that's bonded into the surface rather than sitting on top of it. Sheets are then cut to size, shaped if required, and fitted with eyelets if specified.
Yes our corflute can be cut into custom shapes, please contact our support team if you need something exact made just for you.
Yes, the more you order, the lower the per-unit cost. Our instant online calculator applies bulk pricing automatically as you increase quantity, so you can see exactly what you'll pay before placing your order. There's no minimum order quantity, so whether you need 5 signs or 500 the calculator will give you an accurate price immediately.
Corflute signs are used across a wide range of industries and applications. The most common include real estate for sale and for lease boards, event directional and promotional signage, construction site safety and identification signs, election and political campaign signs, retail point-of-sale displays, and temporary wayfinding. Their low cost, light weight, and weatherproof properties make them the default choice for any temporary or campaign-based signage need.
Environmental considerations
Corflute is made from polypropylene (PP), classified as a Category 5 recyclable plastic under Australia's resin identification coding system. It is 100% recyclable, chemically inert, and produces no toxic by-products during normal use or recycling.
UV-cured inks do not prevent the material from entering the PP recycling stream. Clear polypropylene eyelets are also recyclable alongside the sheet and do not need to be removed. Metal eyelets should be removed though.
Corex Recycling Program
Corflute can be returned to Corex Recycling, the Australian manufacturer of Corflute sheet. Their recycling program accepts Corflute offcuts and used signs from printers and businesses that use genuine Australian-made Corflute. Material must be contaminant-free prior to drop-off, and bookings are made via an online form on their website. Note that program availability can vary, so check the Corex website for current status before arranging a drop-off.
Council Recycling
PP recycling acceptance varies by council. We recommend checking with your local council to confirm whether printed Corflute is accepted in your area.
